hi, I am anika!
If you ever wanted to engage in passionate conversations with me, you would talk about my love of performing arts (vocals, drama, and playing the piano), or my deep interest in the fascinating subject of nanotechnology.
You could also decide to dive into discussions about cultural openness or the way history connects humankind across the globe.
But above all, you could casually chat with me about my constant drive to learn, since I am but One Small Bean who wishes to grow up strong, decisive, open minded and kind.

Vocals & Piano
I have been consistently performing vocals and playing the piano since the age of 5.
My two most recent public performances have been at the Da Kine Island Grill in downtown San Jose in December 2017, and at the Cafe Pink House in Saratoga in July 2018.
I recently formed a Jazz Duo (piano and vocals) with a friend, and the two of us have performed a few Jazz classics at a couple of venues.
I also participate and contribute towards my school choir at SJMS, and sang the lead vocals in this year’s holiday performance.

Drama
I am keenly interested in performing arts, beyond vocals and piano. I have performed on stage since my 4th grade in different theatrical productions via my school’s Drama Club and the San Jose Children’s Musical Theater (CMT), in increasingly important roles.
During those years, I have progressed steadily in role capacity, culminating into the Lead Role of Ti Moune in the musical Once on This Island for a performance scheduled for Feb 21-22, 2019.

Nanotechnology & Science
Back in the summer of 2015, I was lucky enough to travel to the world’s largest science museum – the Deutsche Museum in Munich. Of the myriad floors, the Nanotechnology exhibits intrigued me to the point that I spent almost four hours trying to comprehend it’s fundamentals.
A year later, I was selected into the California State Science Fair and won a state-wide Honorable Mention in the Applied Material Sciences category for my project on Nanotechnology and Surface Tension. Prior to that, I had been selected to the Synopsys District Science Fair won a Silver Medal in Physics, an honorable mention from the Society of Vacuum Coaters, and an honorable mention from the American Society for Metals International.
Another year later, in the 7th Grade, I continued my projects in Nanotechnology, and worked on the impact of Nano Particulate Metals on Superbugs. I was selected to present at the World’s Nano Fair, San Francisco in 2017 as an invited external presenter.
I have represented my school for three events in the 2017-2018 Science Olympiad – Crime Busters (Forensic Sciences), Disease Detectives (Statistics and Epidemiology) and Experimental Design – placing 8th out of 36.

Visual Arts
I have had the privilege of being selected as Art Director this year’s SJMS Year Book, and am contributing the cover and making all design decisions. I have been consistently involved in Yearbook design and production all through middle school.
I have been in Art Club for 3 years and have taken Art as an elective in 8th grade. In my spare time, I like to doodle and improve on my calligraphy skills.

Culture and Constant Learning
Traveling to over 20 countries in the world has made me appreciate the kindness, the will to do good, and the desire to befriend regardless of cultural, religious, economic or geographical boundaries.
Whether it is the effort in going the extra mile to help a complete stranger [me] out in finding an exact item that I needed that I experienced in Japan [1], or the extraordinary care, kindness and love that a Moroccan local provided to my brother [2], my travels have convinced me that people everywhere, from the bottom of their hearts, strive to be good, kind souls.
[1] A store owner in Himeji, Japan, walked 10 blocks with me to a different store that had the item I was thinking of purchasing, leaving her own store unattended. We found out later that there was no connection between her and the new store’s owner. [2] After coming down with an upset tummy, and throwing up badly, my brother couldn’t participate in a tour, and we didn’t even have a hotel room that day to rest. Our tour supervisor took care of him all day long, taking him home, and buying medicines for him – all while she herself was fasting due to Ramadan. You can reach me at:
